Michael Eugene Gale (born July 18, 1950 – died July 31, 2020) was a talented American basketball player. He was known for his skills as a guard in both the ABA and NBA leagues.

Early Life and College
Mike Gale grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to Overbrook High School. After high school, he played college basketball at Elizabeth City State University. He was a 6-foot-4-inch guard.
Starting His Professional Career
In 1971, Mike Gale was chosen by two different professional basketball leagues. The Chicago Bulls picked him in the 1971 NBA draft. At the same time, the Kentucky Colonels chose him in the American Basketball Association (ABA) draft. Mike decided to start his career with the Kentucky Colonels.
Playing in the ABA
Mike Gale played for the Kentucky Colonels from 1971 to 1974. He then joined the New York Nets from 1974 to 1975. While playing for the Nets, he helped them win the 1974 ABA Championship. This was a big achievement in his career!
Mike was also known for his great defense. He was named to the ABA’s All-Defensive First Team twice. This means he was one of the best defensive players in the league. His teammates nicknamed him "Sticky Fingers" because he was so good at stealing the ball from opponents. He was also called "Sugar" because his basketball shot was very smooth.
Moving to the NBA
After the ABA and NBA merged, Mike Gale continued his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the San Antonio Spurs from 1975 to 1980. Later, he joined the Portland Trail Blazers for the 1980–1981 season. His final team was the Golden State Warriors in 1981–1982.
