Michael Lamond (born May 4, 1987) is better known as Husky or HuskyStarcraft. He is an American YouTuber, director, producer, and voice actor. He used to be a popular esports commentator. Esports means competitive video gaming.

Husky became famous for talking about StarCraft II games. This is a popular video game made by Blizzard Entertainment. He often commented on StarCraft tournaments. You could watch his commentary on different YouTube channels.

In 2015, Mike stopped commentating on esports. In 2018, he took down his old YouTube channel. It had over 489 million views. Now, he has a new channel. He also works with Rosanna Pansino on her show Nerdy Nummies.

Early Life and Gaming

Mike "Husky" Lamond was born in Bakersfield, California. He lived in Nipomo for 11 years. Then, his family moved to Beavercreek, Oregon. His parents and older brother still live there.

Mike loved real-time strategy video games. He first learned about StarCraft when he was 11. He played the game for 12 years. He spent a lot of time on Blizzard's online server, Battle.net. He played thousands of matches there.

His Career in Esports

Starting as a Commentator

Husky found out about GOM TV. This was a streaming service in South Korea. It showed professional StarCraft games. This made him want to start his own YouTube channel. He began sharing his own commentary on StarCraft: Brood War games.

His channel grew much faster than he expected. At one point, Husky uploaded about 100 videos each month. He became very popular when he started commentating only on StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty matches. This happened when the game's beta version came out in February 2010.

Tournaments and Collaborations

During the StarCraft II beta, Husky worked with his friend HD. They hosted the HDH Invitational. This was a StarCraft II tournament. It featured 16 of the best professional players. The tournament was played online. The games were later shown on YouTube. It even had sponsors and cash prizes for winners.

In July 2010, Husky and HD helped launch a new YouTube channel. It was called The Game Station. This channel aimed to be like ESPN for video games. It quickly became very popular. Husky's own success helped it grow. Later that year, Husky moved to Los Angeles. He wanted to work full-time at The Game Station.

Husky has commented on many professional tournaments. These include the HDH Invitational. His last one was the Red Bull Training Grounds Santa Monica in 2013.

Why StarCraft is Great

Husky explained why StarCraft is good for watching and commentating. He said, "Almost everyone I showed competitive StarCraft to loved it." He added that playing StarCraft 2 at high levels needs amazing skill. This makes it a fun sport to watch.

Husky's commentary style was fast-paced. He often lost his breath during exciting game moments. This was different from HD's calmer style. Husky said gaming was more than a hobby for him. He wanted to always be involved with it.

In 2012, Axiom ESports was created. Husky and TotalBiscuit were the team's sponsors.

Directing and New Projects

In 2013, Husky helped direct an internet series called Broken Quest. He also starred as the main character. Rosanna Pansino played the main female role.

Moving Away from Esports

Retirement and New Focus

In early 2015, Husky stopped commentating on esports. He also stopped uploading new videos to his YouTube channel. He later explained that he quit because of health reasons. His vocal cords were getting damaged from all the commentating.

He started appearing on Rosanna Pansino’s YouTube channel. He helped her with her "Nerdy Nummies" series. He still works as a manager, director, and producer. In 2018, he took down his old YouTube content.

Husky has since brought back his YouTube channel. Now, it's more of a lifestyle channel. He often shares videos about his life with Rosanna Pansino.

Personal Life

In November 2018, Rosanna Pansino shared that she and Mike Lamond were dating.
