Mike Little (born 12 May 1962) is an English web developer and writer. He is famous for helping to create WordPress, which is a very popular tool for building websites. WordPress is a type of free and open source program, meaning anyone can use and change its code.
Mike Little's Early Life
Mike Little was born in Manchester, England, in 1962. His father was from Nigeria and taught mathematics and played music. His mother was English and worked as a primary school teacher.
When Mike was four months old, he was placed in foster care, which means he was cared for by a different family. Later, the same family officially adopted him. He grew up in Brinnington, Stockport, and went to Stockport School.
Creating WordPress
In 2003, Mike Little and another person named Matt Mullenweg started working on a project together. They used an existing program called b2/cafelog as a starting point. They worked hard to improve it and make it better.
On 27 May 2003, they released the very first version of their new software, which they named WordPress. This was a big moment because WordPress would go on to become one of the most widely used tools for creating websites around the world.
Life After WordPress
Even though Mike Little did not join the company that Matt Mullenweg later started, called Automattic, they remained friends. Mike has said that he doesn't feel like he was treated unfairly.
In June 2013, Mike Little received a special award called the "Outstanding Contribution to Digital" award from SAScon. This award recognized his important role in creating and developing WordPress.
Mike Little is known for being a very humble person who lives a quiet life. He has one daughter. He follows ideas from Stoicism, which is a way of thinking about how to live a good life, and he is also a humanist. In 2021, he became a supporter of the charity Humanists UK.
