Michael Molloy (born December 22, 1940) is a British author. He used to be a newspaper editor and even drew cartoons! He is known for writing both crime stories for adults and exciting fantasy novels for children.
Michael Molloy's Story
Michael Molloy was born in a place called Perivale. He went to Ealing Junior School and later studied at the Ealing School of Art. After his studies, he started working at a newspaper called the Sunday Pictorial.
He then moved to the Daily Sketch, where he began drawing fun cartoons. In 1962, he joined the Daily Mirror. He worked hard and moved up the ranks until he became the editor in 1975.
In 1985, a man named Robert Maxwell made Molloy the Editor-in-Chief. This meant he was in charge of three big newspapers: the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror, and The People. He helped bring color printing to these newspapers. From 1986 to 1988, he also edited the Sunday Mirror.
Between 1985 and 1995, Michael Molloy wrote seven crime fiction books. These books were set in England. Four of them featured a character named Sarah Keane, and three featured Lewis Home.
In 1990, Molloy left the Mirror Group. Later, in 1996, he bought a famous magazine called Punch for Mohammed Al Fayed. He became its deputy editor, but he left after six issues.
After he stopped working in the newspaper world, Michael Molloy started writing books for kids. These books were exciting fantasy novels.
His children's books have been recognized with awards. In 2003, he was a finalist for the Stockton Children's Book of the Year award. In 2007, he was also a finalist for the Hampshire Book Award.
Molloy married Sandy Foley in 1964. They have three daughters: Jane, who is an interiors stylist; Kate, who is a journalist; and Alexandra, who is a writer.
