Mildred "Millie" Louise McDaniel-Singleton (born November 4, 1933 – died September 30, 2004) was an amazing American athlete. She was best known for her incredible skills in the high jump event. Mildred won a gold medal at the Olympic Games. She also set a new world record in the high jump.

Mildred was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She went to David T. Howard High School. Mildred was a very talented athlete from a young age.

She competed for the United States at the 1956 Summer Olympics. These games were held in Melbourne, Australia. Mildred won the gold medal in the women's high jump. This was a huge achievement!

During the Olympics, she jumped even higher than before. She beat the world record holder, Iolanda Balaș. Mildred set a brand new world record for the high jump.

College and More Wins

Mildred attended the Tuskegee Institute. While she was there, she also played basketball. She was a great all-around athlete.

Mildred was the National Champion in high jump multiple times. She won this title in 1953, 1955, and 1956. Her dedication and hard work paid off.
