Milkis (Lua error in Module:Korean at line 109: attempt to call field '_xlit' (a nil value).) is a popular South Korean soft drink. It is made by Lotte Chilsung, a big beverage company in South Korea.
Milkis is unique because it mixes regular fizzy soda with milk. This creates a creamy and bubbly drink. Its label even says it offers a "New feeling of soda beverage." In the United States, Milkis cans proudly state it is "Korea's No.1 Cream Soda."
You can find Milkis in many different flavors. These include classic (regular), orange, strawberry, mango, melon, banana, peach, and apple. The classic flavor is also used as a glaze on some pastries. Milkis is very popular in South Korea and is sold all around the world.
The Story of Milkis
Milkis first launched in 1989. It had a huge advertising campaign to introduce it. A famous Hong Kong actor named Chow Yun-fat appeared in its TV commercials.
Chow Yun-fat was very popular at the time. This was because of his successful movie A Better Tomorrow. In the Milkis ads, he said the catchphrase "Saranghaeyo, Milkis!" This means "I love you, Milkis!"
His strong accent made the phrase a big hit. Milkis sales quickly went up. That catchphrase is still one of the most famous in South Korea.
Milkis Around the World
Milkis has become very popular in other countries too. For example, it has seen a big rise in popularity in Taiwan. Lotte Chilsung started selling Milkis there in late 2020. They first sent 200,000 cans.
The demand for Milkis grew very fast in Taiwan. In 2021, they sold 2.3 million cans. By the first eight months of 2022, they had sold 10 million cans there.
The drink has also done well in the United States. In 2021, 10 million cans were sold in the U.S. Most of these sales happened in Asian supermarkets.
