History of Mill Creek
Mill Creek borough got its name from a nearby stream, also called Mill Creek. This stream flows into the Juniata River.
Long ago, in the 1700s and 1800s, the creek was very important. It provided power for many mills in the area. These mills helped the early settlers and the town grow. The town was settled in 1848 and officially became a borough in 1905.
Where is Mill Creek Located?
Mill Creek is in the eastern part of Huntingdon County. It sits right where Mill Creek joins the Juniata River.
Major Roads and Nearby Towns
A main road, U.S. Route 22, goes through Mill Creek. If you go northwest on this road for about 5 miles (8 km), you'll reach Huntingdon. This is the main town, or county seat, for Huntingdon County. If you go southeast for about 6 miles (10 km), you'll find Mount Union.
Another important road, Pennsylvania Route 655, starts in Mill Creek. It goes northeast for about 16 miles (26 km) to Belleville. Belleville is in a valley called the Kishacoquillas Valley.
Borders and Area
Mill Creek borough has neighbors all around it. To the northwest is Henderson Township. Across the Juniata River to the southwest is Union Township. To the east, you'll find Brady Township. All these neighboring areas are also in Huntingdon County.
The total area of Mill Creek is about 0.33 square miles (0.84 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.30 square miles (0.78 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.03 square miles (0.06 square kilometers), is water. This means about 7.65% of the borough is water.
