Mill Creek Mountain is a long, continuous mountain ridge in West Virginia, USA. It stretches through Hampshire and Hardy counties in the eastern part of the state. This mountain is part of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, which are mountains formed by layers of rock that have been folded and pushed up.
The highest point on Mill Creek Mountain is called High Knob, reaching about 2,650 feet (807 meters) high. Mill Creek Mountain forms the western edge of the valley where the South Branch Potomac River flows.
The mountain gets its name from Mill Creek. This creek cuts a path through the mountain at a place called Mechanicsburg Gap. This gap is important because it allows U.S. Route 50, also known as the Northwestern Turnpike, to pass through the mountain.
Near the South Branch Potomac River, south of Springfield, you can find Hanging Rocks. These cool rock formations are located on the northern side of the gap that the South Branch carved into Mill Creek Mountain.
