Mill Green Museum is a super cool place in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. It's a real, working watermill! This old building was built way back in the 1600s. It's so special that it's listed as a Grade II* building. Inside the old miller's house, there's a museum with different art and local history displays that change often.
A Glimpse into the Past
This amazing mill uses the power of the River Lea to turn its big wheels. Records from the Domesday Book (a very old survey from 1086) show that there were several mills in Hatfield, including one right here!
The last person to use the mill for business, Mr. Lawrence, moved to Australia in 1911. But don't worry, the mill has been fixed up! It now works perfectly with its old 18th and 19th-century wooden machines. It regularly grinds special organic wheat. This wheat is used by a local bakery and also sold right there at the museum.
Visiting the Mill
The Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council takes care of Mill Green Museum. When you visit, you can explore the mill and even see it working! You can also chat with the miller who is on duty.
Mill Green also offers fun activities like craft and baking workshops. They have special activities just for kids and even a service for school visits. It's a great place to learn and have fun!
