Geography of Milladore
Milladore covers an area of about 34 square miles (88.1 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. Only a very tiny part, about 0.04 square miles (0.1 square kilometers), is water. This information comes from the United States Census Bureau.
History of Milladore Town
The land that became Milladore was first mapped in the summer of 1851. This was done by a team working for the U.S. government. They surveyed the area to create a map of the land.
In late 1852, another team marked the corners of different land sections. They walked through forests and swamps to measure the land. They used tools like a Gunter's chain and a Solar compass.
After their work, the surveyor described the area. He said the land had "Hardwood Ridges" and swamps with trees like Hemlock and Tamarac. He noted that the swamps were not good for farming. However, if cleared, the Hemlock swamps might grow grass.
The surveyor also mentioned that the land was mostly flat. The hardwood areas were only a little higher than the swamps. The soil on these ridges was good for growing things. The area had many trees, including Hemlock, Yellow Birch, Sugar Maple, and White Pine.
There were also many small creeks in the area. These creeks often had alder trees along their banks. Some creeks had small marshy areas that could provide good hay. At that time, there were no buildings or farms in the township.
The Town of Milladore was officially created in 1882. It was named after the nearby Village of Milladore.
