Making the Show
In March 2014, the BBC decided to create a new TV series. It was first called The Millie Show. Later, the name was changed to Millie Inbetween.
The show was filmed in a few different places. Some parts were shot in Dumbarton, Scotland. Other scenes were filmed in Northern Ireland. They also used locations that looked like Glasgow.
What Happens in the Show
Millie Inbetween follows the life of Millie McDonald. She is a 12-year-old girl. Her 15-year-old sister is named Lauren McDonald. Their parents, Sharon and Tony, have recently separated.
This means Millie and Lauren often switch between living with their mum and their dad. Millie finds some cool things about this new setup. She gets two Christmas celebrations and two birthdays! She also has two bedrooms. But there are also tricky parts. Her parents start new relationships, and their new partners have kids too. Everyone wants to move in!
Series 1: New Families Forming
Millie (Millie Innes) and Lauren (Tallulah Greive) are getting used to their parents being apart. Their mum, Sharon (Hannah Jane Fox), starts dating Mike (Jeremy Edwards). Mike has a son named Craig (Theo Stevenson), who can be a bit of a troublemaker.
Their dad, Tony (James Bachman), meets Amber (Jaye Jacobs). Amber has two children: Fran (Mya-Lecia Naylor) and Jake (Marley Lockhart). Millie and Lauren now have a whole new set of step-siblings!
Series 2: Big Changes and Fun Times
In this series, Millie celebrates her 13th birthday. Lauren gets ready for a school hike. Millie and Fran compete in a spelling bee. Craig feels left out at home and goes to stay with his mum for Christmas.
Jake and Fran's dad shows up, which is a surprise. Millie's mum loses her job, and she tries to be cool like Amber. Millie's English teacher visits to talk about her poem. Lauren starts dating Craig's friend, Justin. Tony and Amber break up but then get back together. Mike asks Sharon to marry him, and the whole family goes camping!
Series 3: Weddings, Babies, and New Homes
Tony and Amber decide to move to a bigger flat. Craig makes a new friend. Amber announces she is pregnant, which is exciting news! Millie's grandparents surprise everyone by showing up on Christmas Day.
Mike loses his job at the gym but is scared to tell Sharon. Millie has to start thinking about what subjects she wants to study at school. Fran gets a temporary tattoo, which Amber is not happy about. It's Father's Day, and Tony thinks Millie and Lauren have forgotten him. The house goes without electricity for a week. Millie, Lauren, and Craig try to get the house to themselves. Mum and Mike finally get married! Amber gives birth to a baby boy named Hector.
Series 4: Moving On and New Adventures
Craig moves out to go to college. Lauren meets a boy named Declan (Richard Wisker), and they start dating. Dad and Amber move all the way to Spain. Fran and Jake are then looked after by their grandma, Flora.
Millie tries to become friends with Jessie, a "wild" girl in her maths class. Mike's nephew, Leo, moves into the house. Lauren deletes her social media after a message mix-up. Mum and Mike start arguing, which worries the kids. Millie helps Fran and Jake end a fight. Jessie is having problems at home, and Millie tries to help her. Millie starts a blog to give advice to parents.
At the end of this series, Lauren leaves for college. Leo also moves out. Millie has to choose between holidays with her mum or her dad. She decides to do something different: she volunteers to help in Kenya!
Series 5: Special Missions
In these special episodes, Declan and Dad share some big news. This turns everyone's future upside down. Millie and Craig travel to Spain on a special mission. They race against time to try and save her dad's job.
