Milligan is a small community in Okaloosa County, Florida, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.
Milligan is located in the western part of Florida. It sits right where two important roads meet: U.S. Route 90 and State Road 4. It's about 4 miles (6.4 km) west-southwest of a larger town called Crestview.
Milligan's History: A Former County Seat
Milligan has an interesting past. For a short time, it was the "county seat" of Okaloosa County. A county seat is like the main town for a county. It's where the county government offices are located.
Okaloosa County was formed on June 3, 1915. Milligan was chosen as its first county seat. However, this didn't last long. In 1917, the Yellow River flooded. Because of this flood, the county seat had to be moved from Milligan.
