Millrift is a small place in Pennsylvania, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Westfall Township in Pike County, Pennsylvania.
Millrift's Early Days
Millrift is located right where Delaware Drive and Bluestone Boulevard meet. It sits on the west side of the Delaware River, a bit northwest of Matamoras.
The first family to settle here was James Sawyer's family. They moved all the way from Orange County, New York.
How Millrift Got Its Name
The area where Millrift is located was special because the Bush Kill stream flows into the Delaware River there. Because of this, the place became known as "Saw-Mill Rift."
Later, the Erie Railroad built a special track here. It was a "crossover" that allowed trains to switch tracks or pass each other. They nicknamed this spot "Turnover."
In 1884, the United States Postal Service opened a post office in the area. They gave it the official name we know today: Mill Rift.
