The Milroy State Bank Building is an old bank building in the small town of Milroy, Minnesota. You can find it where Superior Street and Euclid Avenue meet. It was built in 1902 by some business people from Springfield, Minnesota. This building looks a lot like the Clements State Bank Building in Clements, Minnesota. Both buildings show how people invested in new towns that grew up along the Minnesota Western Branch of the Chicago and North Western Railway.

A Look Back in Time
The bank stopped operating in 1930. After that, the building was used for different things. It was a doctor's office for a while. It also served as a bank exchange, which is a place where people could swap money.
Later, from 1951 to 1989, the building became the post office for Milroy. A new post office was built in 1989, so the old bank building was no longer needed for that purpose.
On August 11, 1980, the Milroy State Bank Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history. Several other buildings in Redwood County, Minnesota were also added to the list at the same time.
Giving an Old Building New Life
After the post office moved out, the building was left empty for many years. It became unheated, and its roof even collapsed. It seemed like the building might be lost forever.
However, in 2009, a local person named Sunny Ruthchild bought the building for about $1,000. She decided to give it a new life. She worked hard to fix it up. This included repairing the roof and restoring the old floors. She also added modern features like energy-efficient windows and a special heating and cooling system called a geothermal heat pump.
Today, the top part of the building is rented out as an apartment. The bottom part is currently empty. There are plans to turn this space into a small business, perhaps a bakery or a café.
