History and Geography of Mineral Point

Mineral Point was first settled a long time ago, in the early 1800s. People came here because they heard about the chance to mine for lead. Many of the first settlers were Cornish immigrants from Cornwall, England. They brought their building styles and culture with them.

Historic Cornish Homes

You can still see many of the old Cornish homes in Mineral Point. These special buildings have been kept safe at a place called Pendarvis. Pendarvis is a historic site run by the state. It helps us remember the early days of Mineral Point and the people who built it.
