Queens Cup Steeplechase Races
Mineral Springs is home to Brooklandwood. This is a large farm and estate covering over 260 acres. It is famous for hosting the Queens Cup Steeplechase. This is a major annual event in steeplechase horse racing.
What is the Queens Cup?
The Queens Cup is a day of exciting horse races. Horses jump over fences on a special track. It usually takes place on the last Saturday of April. Besides the races, there is also a fun contest for Jack Russell Terrier dogs.
Many people come to Mineral Springs for this event. Between 12,000 and 18,000 visitors arrive. They come from all over the country, especially from the Charlotte area. They enjoy a day of races and other activities.
Recent Changes to the Race
In December 2023, an announcement was made about the Queens Cup. The people who started the races decided to step down. They planned to retire after the 2024 race.
After this, the team behind the Queens Cup worked together. They wanted to keep this historic event going. However, they faced many challenges. It was very difficult to plan the event. Also, the costs kept going up.
Because of these reasons, the team made a tough decision. They decided to cancel the 2024 race. The board of the Charlotte Steeplechase Foundation agreed with this choice. They will continue to think about the future of the event.
One of the founders, Carrington Price, shared his thoughts. He thanked everyone who helped with the Queens Cup for nearly 30 years. He also thanked the sponsors and fans. He said it was an honor to host the event. Through the Queens Cup, the Charlotte Steeplechase Foundation has given over a million dollars to local charities.
