Miramar is a neighborhood located in the northern part of San Diego, California, United States. The name "Miramar" comes from Spanish and means "Sea View." This area has homes, businesses, and light industrial zones.

Many people who live in Miramar are connected to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (MCAS Miramar). This base was once a Navy flight school called TOPGUN. The famous movie Top Gun (from 1986) was inspired by this real-life school. In 1995, the base changed from Navy to Marine Corps use. It became a base for both planes and helicopters in 1999.

History of Miramar

Miramar was originally part of a large ranch called Scripps Ranch. This ranch was started by Edward W. Scripps. In the 1890s, he built his home there and named it Miramar. He got the name from a castle in Trieste, Italy, called Miramare, which belonged to Archduke Maximilian. Over time, the name Miramar was used for the entire area.

Before it became a military base in 1950, Miramar was a small, quiet community. It was centered around a railroad station. None of the original buildings from that time are still standing today. Later, a special business area called Little India grew on Black Mountain Road.

Miramar's Economy

Miramar is an important business area in San Diego County. It has about 14 million square feet of space for different types of businesses. These include places for storing and distributing goods, warehouses, offices, and shops along Miramar Road.

Miramar is well-known because of its central location and its many industrial businesses. This area usually has a lot of businesses operating, with about 91% of its spaces being used recently.
