Misako Uno's Career
Misako Uno was born in a wealthy family. Her dad was a writer for ads, and her mom was a social worker. When she was young, she dreamed of becoming a stage artist. This dream came from seeing the musical Cats in London.
Her early school years were tough for her. She felt unsure because she wasn't good at sports like running or jumping. Even though she was small and not very fast, she decided to work hard to gain confidence.
She studied at Shirayuri Gakuen for fifteen years. At age 8, she started writing essays and learning to dance there. When she was 11, she went to an International Summer Camp in Germany. She was one of three students chosen by Japan's Ministry of Education.
At the camp, she couldn't talk to other students because she didn't know German. This made her want to study English very hard. She decided she wanted to travel and study abroad. Later, she went to London during her summer break in 8th grade.
In her first year of high school, Misako Uno tried out for "Avex Audition 2002." This was a big audition held by Avex Group, a large entertainment company. She came in second place out of thousands of people! After that, she joined the Avex Artist Academy. A year later, she started a dance club at her school. This club later became the famous group AAA.
She first appeared in the 2005 TV show SLOW DANCE. Her music was used as background music for the show. Later that year, she acted as Mai Honda in the movie Their Waters (彼らの海) VIII -Sentimental Journey-. In 2006, she got her first main acting role as Akane Sueyoshi in the anti-war drama Bokura no te (ボクラノテ).
In the same year, Columbia Pictures looked for new actors. Misako Uno passed their audition and made her Hollywood debut. She starred in the 2006 horror film The Grudge 2 as a Japanese student named Miyuki Nazawa.
In 2010, she had her first main role in a Japanese film. She played Taniyama Miguru in the comedy movie rendez-vous (ランデブー!). At the end of that year, she performed for the first time on NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen, a very famous music show in Japan.
In 2011, her early life experiences were put into an English textbook. The book was called Stepping stone Vol.7 Misako Uno. It was used in middle and high schools by the MEXT.
Personal Life
Keiichiro Koyama from the band NEWS and Misako Uno got married on March 12, 2024. They chose this date because it is also the birthday of Misako Uno's father, who passed away in January 2023.
