Mismaloya facts for kids

Mismaloya is a small village in Mexico. It's located on the coast of the Bahía de Banderas (which means "Bay of Flags"). Mismaloya is in the state of Jalisco, south of Puerto Vallarta. The name Mismaloya comes from the Nahuatl language. It means "place where they grab fish with their hands."

Climate in Mismaloya

Mismaloya has a tropical wet and dry climate. This means it's warm all year round. There are two main seasons:

• A dry season from November to May.
• A wet season from June to October.

The sun's UV radiation is strong all year. It's highest from April to September. The weather can feel very hot and humid. This is especially true from July to August.

The sea temperature is usually warm. It's around 23°C (73°F) in March. It gets warmer in August, reaching about 30°C (86°F).

Famous Film Location

Mismaloya is well-known for movies filmed there.

• In 1963, the movie The Night of the Iguana was filmed here. The movie set and crew's living areas were built on a hill. Today, only ruins of the set remain. The movie helped make Puerto Vallarta famous.
• Another famous movie, Predator, also filmed some scenes nearby. This happened in a jungle area called El Eden.

Things to Do in Mismaloya

Playa Mismaloya (Mismaloya Beach) is in a beautiful cove. From the beach, you can see the Los Arcos sea rocks. These rocks are a great spot for activities like snorkeling and scuba diving.

On the beach, you can:

• Rent boats for fun on the water.
• Find many restaurants to eat at.
• Buy souvenirs from local sellers.

There's also a nice hotel called Hotel Barceló. You can visit a fun zoo nearby. The Vallarta Botanical Gardens are also just a 15-minute bus ride away.
