Miss Meyers (born 1949 – died March 1963) was a famous American Quarter Horse racehorse. She was known for her speed on the track and later for being a great mother (called a broodmare). In 1953, she was named the World Champion Quarter Running Horse.

Miss Meyers won 17 races and earned over $28,000. After her racing days, she became the mother of Kid Meyers, who was the very first American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Supreme Champion. She had three other foals who also did well. Miss Meyers was added to the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2009, which is a special honor for horses.

About Miss Meyers

Early Life and Family

Miss Meyers was a chestnut-colored mare, meaning she had a reddish-brown coat. She was born in 1949. Her father was a famous horse named Leo, who is also in the AQHA Hall of Fame. Her mother was Star's Lou, and Star's Lou's father was Oklahoma Star P-6, another Hall of Fame horse.

Miss Meyers was bred by O. C. Meyer. Later, she was owned by Bruce A. Green.

Racing Career and Achievements

Miss Meyers raced from 1952 to 1955. She was very fast! She won 17 out of 59 races she started. She also came in second place 15 times and third place 5 times. In total, she earned about $28,727 from her races.

She won seven important races called stakes races. Some of her big wins included the 1953 California Championship and the 1953 Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association World Championship Dash. She even set four new track records for speed!

In 1953, when she was four years old, Miss Meyers had her best year. She won more than half of her total earnings that year. The AQHA named her the World Champion Quarter Running Horse. They also called her the High Money Earning Horse because she won so much money. In 1954, she earned the title of Superior Race Horse. She reached the highest possible speed rating, called AAAT, which shows how incredibly fast she was.

Her Foals and Legacy

After Miss Meyers stopped racing, she became a broodmare, which means she had baby horses (called foals). Her most famous foal was Kid Meyers. His father was Three Bars, another famous horse. Kid Meyers became the first ever AQHA Supreme Champion. This means he was amazing at racing, good at horse shows, and had a great body shape.

Kid Meyers was born in 1963. He raced 23 times and won 6 of those races, earning over $10,000. After racing, he earned his AQHA Champion title in 1966 and his AQHA Supreme Champion title in 1967. Sadly, Kid Meyers became an orphan when he was only one month old because his mother, Miss Meyers, passed away in March 1963.

Miss Meyers had three other foals:

  • Oh My Oh: Born in 1957, this bay (brown) mare was also very fast. She won 8 races and earned over $12,000. She later became the mother of a famous race winner named Three Oh's.
  • Mr Meyers: Born in 1958, this sorrel (reddish) stallion (male horse) raced 41 times and won 9 races. He earned over $25,000 and also became an AQHA Champion and Superior Race Horse. He was a successful breeding stallion.
  • Milpool: Born in 1959, this chestnut mare was Miss Meyers' fourth foal. She was never raced or shown.

Miss Meyers was a truly special horse, both on the racetrack and as a mother. Her contributions to the Quarter Horse breed are remembered through her induction into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2009.
