Phrynohyas resinifictrix

The Mission golden-eyed tree frog is also known as the Amazon milk frog. Its scientific name is Trachycephalus resinifictrix. This large frog lives in trees, mostly in the Amazon Rainforest in South America.

People sometimes call it the blue milk frog. This is because it can make a sticky, milky liquid when it feels scared. This frog was first found near the Maracanã River in Brazil.

About the Mission Golden-Eyed Tree Frog

These frogs are quite big! They can grow to be about 6 to 10 centimeters (2.5 to 4 inches) long. Adult frogs are usually light grey. They have brown or black stripes or bands on their bodies.

Younger frogs have colors that stand out more. As they get older, their skin becomes a little bumpy. Their blood is a bit blue, and you can sometimes see this color through their skin. It's most noticeable around their mouth and on their toe pads.

The name "milk frog" comes from the milky fluid they release. They do this when they are feeling stressed or threatened. It's a way for them to protect themselves.

Where They Live

Mission golden-eyed tree frogs live in very wet rainforests. They often hang out in plants and trees that are close to slow-moving water. This water is usually there all the time.

Keeping Them as Pets

Many people keep Trachycephalus resinifictrix as pets. They are not too hard to care for. However, they need a good amount of space in their tank. They also need a lot of humidity, which means the air needs to be moist.

It's important to keep their home very clean. This helps the frogs stay healthy. In the wild, these frogs live in warm places. The temperature is usually between 21 and 30 degrees Celsius (70 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit). So, pet frogs need a similar warm temperature in their enclosures.
