Where is Mitchell Located?
Mitchell is found in the western part of Madison County. It is at a busy spot where two major roads meet: Interstate 270 and Illinois Route 203. Route 203 was once part of the famous U.S. Route 66.

Mitchell is about 13 miles (21 km) northeast of downtown St. Louis. It is surrounded by other communities. To the south and east, you'll find Pontoon Beach. Edwardsville is to the northeast, and the community of Brooks is to the northwest. Granite City is about 6 miles (10 km) southwest.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that Mitchell covers about 0.56 square miles (1.45 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the community. Mitchell is located on the flat land near the Mississippi River. This area is often called the American Bottom.
