Pontoon Beach is a small village located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2020, about 5,876 people lived there. It is part of the larger St. Louis metropolitan area, which is a big group of cities and towns around St. Louis.

Location and Landscape
Pontoon Beach is found in the southwestern part of Madison County. It is about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis. The village shares its borders with several other towns. To the west is Granite City, and to the northwest is Mitchell. Edwardsville, the main city of Madison County, is to the north. To the east, you'll find Glen Carbon, and to the southeast is Collinsville. Fairmont City is to the south, and Madison is to the southwest.
Roads and Travel
Several important roads run through Pontoon Beach, making it easy to get around.
- Illinois Route 111 goes right through the middle of the village. It heads north to Wood River and south to Fairmont City.
- Illinois Route 162 crosses Route 111. This road goes east to Troy and southwest to Madison.
- Interstate 255 is a major highway on the east side of the village. You can get on or off at Exit 26 (Horseshoe Lake Road) and Exit 29 (IL 162).
- Interstate 270 is another big highway that crosses the northern part of Pontoon Beach. You can access it from Exit 6 (IL 111).
Water and Land Features
Pontoon Beach covers about 12.4 square miles. Most of this area, about 10 square miles, is land. The rest, about 2.5 square miles, is water. The village is in a flat area called the American Bottom. This area is part of the Mississippi River floodplain, which means it's low-lying land near the river. A part of Horseshoe Lake is in the southwest of the village. This lake is an oxbow lake, which is a U-shaped lake formed when a river's bend gets cut off from the main flow. It used to be a part of the Mississippi River.
