Miva is located next to the Mary River on its eastern side. To the west, you'll find the Bauple-Woolooga Road. Most of Miva is in the Gympie Region. However, a small part in the north-east belongs to the Fraser Coast Region.
The lower areas near the river are about 20 to 70 metres above sea level. These parts are used for farming. The land gets hilly towards the west, reaching about 100 metres high. In the south-east, the hills go up to 150 metres. These hilly areas are mostly undeveloped bushland.
A railway line, once called the Kingaroy branch railway, used to run through Miva. It went from the east towards the south-west. Miva even had its own railway station, but it's not used anymore.
History of Miva
The name Miva comes from a large farm called a pastoral run. This farm belonged to Gideon Scott in 1851. People think the name is an Aboriginal word. It might mean "stony knob" or "Moreton Bay chestnut."
Before the railway, a special boat called a punt helped people cross the river at Miva.
The Nanango railway line opened in December 1886. It first reached a town called Kilkivan.
