Mog's Early Life and Family
Mog was born in 1663. His father was also named Mog. His father was a leader of the Abenaki people before him. Sadly, Mog's father was killed in 1677.
Fighting in Early Wars
Mog became a war leader. He fought in two big conflicts. These were King William's War and Queen Anne's War. In these wars, Mog and the Abenaki were allies of New France. This means they fought alongside the French against the British.
Peace and New Conflicts
After these wars, a peace agreement was signed. It was called the Treaty of Utrecht. Because of this treaty, Mog and his people had to agree to something difficult. They had to let the British travel freely through their lands.
However, this peace did not last long. In 1722, some Abenaki men attacked parts of Massachusetts. Because of this, the Colony of Massachusetts declared war on the Abenaki. This new conflict is sometimes called Father Rale's War.
The Battle of Norridgewock
Mog continued to lead his people in battle. He fought alongside other important figures. These included Father Sebastien Rale and Bomoseen.
Mog was killed in 1724 during the Battle of Norridgewock. He was shot by a Mohawk soldier. This soldier was fighting on the side of the British.
