Early Life and Career

He belonged to the Osman Mahamuud sub-clan, which is part of the larger Majeerteen clan.
Here are some of the important roles he held:
- 1963 – 1965: He worked as a secretary for the Chief of Military Forces.
- 1965 – 1967: He was the leader of the Horseed political party.
- 1970 – 1972: He commanded the 21st Division of the Somali National Army.
- 1972 – 1973: He was in charge of training for the Somali Military Forces.
In the mid-1970s, he also worked as a military representative in China. After that, he moved to Canada in 1979. In Canada, he owned and managed several gas stations until the mid-1990s.
Becoming President of Puntland
Mohamud Muse Hersi became the President of Puntland in 2005. During his time as president, he started several important projects to help the region grow.
Building an Airport
In March 2005, President Muse began a big project to build an airport in Bosaso. Bosaso is a major city and a business hub in Puntland. This airport project was completed and is now known as Bender Qassim International Airport.
Supporting Education
The next month, a group called UNICEF praised President Muse. He promised to start paying salaries to primary school teachers. This was a big change because, in Somalia, parents usually had to pay teachers themselves. This step helped make education more stable for children.
Dealing with Challenges
In November 2006, a group called the Union of Islamic Courts reportedly took control of a town near Puntland's border. President Adde Muse stated that Puntland would follow Islamic law. However, he said they would do it differently from the Islamic Courts. He also made it clear that Puntland would fight back against any attacks from the Islamic Courts.
Fighting Piracy
During 2008, there was a rise in piracy off the coast of Puntland. Pirates would attack ships and demand money. President Mohamud Muse Hersi spoke about this issue. He said that giving in to the pirates' demands was not an option. He believed that no ransom should be paid to pirates. He supported governments that used force to stop pirates.
New Development Projects
In October 2008, President Muse signed an agreement with a company from Dubai. This agreement was for a large amount of money, about Dh170 million. The money was to help build an airport, a seaport, and a special economic zone in Bosaso. President Muse hoped these projects would bring better health services, education, and overall wealth to the people of Puntland.
His term as President of Puntland ended in January 2009.
Death
