Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mok-dong is a lively area, or district, located in Yangcheon District in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. It's in the northwest part of Yangcheon District. Mok-dong shares its borders with other areas like Yeongdeungpo District to the east and Shinjeong-dong to the north.

In the past, Mok-dong was mostly a quiet farming area with small communities. But in the 1970s, it started to change a lot. It became a large area with many homes and apartments. Before the new town was built, there were some simple communities along the Anyangcheon stream. These were replaced when the new town plan for Mok-dong was announced in 1983 and finished in 1988.

Today, Mok-dong is well-known for its excellent private education facilities. It's considered one of the top places for learning in Seoul, after the Gangnam District. You can easily get around Mok-dong using the subway, with stations like Omokgyo (Line 5) and ShinMokdong (Line 9). Some of the main places in Mok-dong include Mokdong Stadium, the Anyangcheon stream, Yongwangsan Park, and Paris Park.

Anyangcheon Stream: A Nature Path

The Anyangcheon is a stream that starts its journey from Anyang Temple on Samseong Mountain. That's how it got its name! As it flows, other smaller streams join it. For example, the Hakeu Stream from Baekun Mountain and the Sanbon Stream from Gunpo all meet up in Seoksu-dong, Anyang.

From there, the Anyangcheon flows north. It passes through several cities and districts. These include Gwangmyeong, Geumcheon District, Guro District, and Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul. Finally, it flows into the Han River on the western side of Seongsan Bridge. The stream is an important natural feature for the areas it passes through.
