Monfort Heights is a special kind of community in Ohio, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts as a community for population studies.

Monfort Heights is located in Green Township, which is part of Hamilton County. It is also part of the larger Cincinnati–Northern Kentucky metropolitan area. In 2020, about 12,070 people lived here. Before 2020, this area was counted as two separate places: Monfort Heights East and Monfort Heights South.

History of Monfort Heights

This community was once known by other names like "Wisenburg" or "Wisenburgh." The name "Monfort" first appeared when a post office opened on March 17, 1900. Its first postmaster was Frank Lumler.

The post office was named after Captain Elias Riggs Monfort. He was a hero from the American Civil War and later became the postmaster of Cincinnati. The Monfort post office closed in 1905.

The name "Monfort Heights" almost disappeared. But in the late 1920s, local school districts joined together. They needed a new name for their combined school district. That's when "Monfort Heights" was chosen.

In 1920, only about 250 people lived in Monfort Heights. This number grew a lot over the years.

Home of the Filet-O-Fish

Did you know the very first McDonald's restaurant in the Cincinnati area opened in Monfort Heights? It was started by Lou Groen in 1959.

Lou Groen created the famous Filet-O-Fish sandwich right here! He wanted to offer something special for his Catholic customers. They often avoided meat on Fridays and during Lent. The Filet-O-Fish was a tasty solution.

Geography of Monfort Heights

Monfort Heights is located about 9 miles (14 km) northwest of downtown Cincinnati. The main part of the community is along North Bend Road. Its center is where West Fork Road and North Bend Road meet.

Just south of this intersection, you'll find Exit 14 of Interstate 74. This highway runs east to west through Monfort Heights.

The United States Census Bureau says that Monfort Heights covers about 15.3 square kilometers (5.9 square miles). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the community.

People of Monfort Heights

In 2020, there were 12,070 people living in Monfort Heights. This means there were about 2,035 people per square mile (786 per square kilometer). There were 5,222 homes in the area.

Most people in Monfort Heights are White (81.7%). About 10.7% are Black or African American. Other groups include Asian (2.3%), Native American (0.1%), and Pacific Islander (0.1%). About 4.5% of people are from two or more races. Around 1.7% of the population is Hispanic or Latino.

There were 5,044 households in Monfort Heights. About 35.4% of these homes had children under 18 living there. Many homes (54.7%) were married couples living together.

The average household had 2.61 people. The average family had 3.16 people.
