The Mongolian finch (Bucanetes mongolicus) is a small bird from the finch family. It's also sometimes called the Mongolian trumpeter finch. These birds are known for their pretty colors and their homes in rocky, dry places.

What Does a Mongolian Finch Look Like?

The Mongolian finch is a small bird with long wings. It has a big head and a short, thick bill that is greyish-yellow.

When male finches are ready to mate, they look extra special! Their face and belly turn a lovely pink color. Their wings also show lots of white and pink. Even when they are not nesting, they still have some of these beautiful colors, just not as bright.

Where Do Mongolian Finches Live?

Mongolian finches live in many countries across Asia. You can find them from eastern Turkey all the way to Central Asia, western China, and Mongolia. They also live south in places like Kashmir.

These birds love to live in mountains. They prefer rocky areas, stony deserts, or places with dry bushes. They are native to countries like Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Mongolia, Russia, and Turkey. Sometimes, a finch might fly far from home, like one that was seen in Bahrain!
