Mont-Tremblant is a city located in the beautiful Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada. It's about 130 kilometers (80 miles) northwest of Montreal and 140 kilometers (87 miles) northeast of Ottawa. The city as we know it today was officially formed in the year 2000.

Mont-Tremblant is most famous for its amazing ski resort. This resort is about seven kilometers (4.3 miles) from the main village. It sits at the base of a mountain also called Mont Tremblant. The name "Tremblant" comes from the local Algonquins, who called it the "trembling mountain."

History of Mont-Tremblant

The land where Mont-Tremblant now stands was first home to the Algonquins. European settlers arrived in 1872, led by a priest named Antoine Labelle. This led to the official start of the parish in 1879.

Early Development

A railway line from Montreal reached a nearby village in 1892. It was extended to Lac Mercier in 1904, and Mont-Tremblant grew around this train station. In 1905, a hydroelectric dam was built. This dam provided electricity for the area. The main jobs back then were farming and cutting down trees (logging).

The Famous Ski Resort

The Mont-Tremblant Lodge ski resort opened its first chair lift in 1939. It was built by Joseph Bondurant Ryan. His family later sold the resort in 1965.

City Formation

In 2002, four local areas decided to join together. These were Ville Saint-Jovite, Paroisse de Saint-Jovite, Mont-Tremblant, and Lac-Tremblant-Nord. They all became one big city called Ville de Mont-Tremblant. However, Lac-Tremblant-Nord later separated in 2006.
