Mount Orford, also known as Mont Orford in French, is a cool mountain and a popular ski resort. You can find it inside the Mont-Orford National Park in Quebec, Canada. It's about 10 kilometers (6 miles) northwest of a city called Magog. This area is part of the beautiful Eastern Townships region.

History of Mount Orford

In 2006, the government of Quebec had a big announcement. They wanted to make the Mont-Orford National Park even bigger. But they also planned to sell the ski resort and golf course to private companies.

These companies wanted to build new things on about 80 hectares (almost 200 acres) of land. They planned to add condos, restaurants, shops, and a hotel. It would have been similar to another popular resort, Mont-Tremblant.

However, many groups, especially environmental ones, did not agree with this plan. They worked hard to stop the sale. Their efforts were successful! On May 7, 2007, a new government official announced that the province would not sell Mount Orford. This meant the park and resort would stay protected.

Fun Activities at Mount Orford

Mount Orford is a great place for skiing and other fun activities. The ski resort has three main peaks: Mont Giroux, Mont Orford, and Mont Alfred Desrochers.

This mountain is also special because it's the home mountain of Nicolas Fontaine. He is an Olympic medalist in skiing, and there's even a ski trail named after him!

The resort has many useful buildings and features for visitors. These include:

  • A main lodge at the base with a bar and a cafeteria. It even has rooftop terraces where you can relax.
  • Well-prepared ski trails for smooth rides. There are also areas with moguls (bumps) and glades (skiing through trees) for more experienced skiers.
  • A ski shop where you can buy gear.
  • A repair shop to fix your skis or snowboards.
  • A rental center if you need to rent equipment.

In the past, Mount Orford also had:

  • A triple yurt lodge at the summit. Yurts are round tents often used for lodging.
  • A snack bar at the very top of the mountain.
