Montae Nicholson (born December 4, 1995) is an American professional football player. He plays as a safety for the DC Defenders in the United Football League (UFL). He played college football for Michigan State before joining the NFL.

Early Life and High School Sports
Montae Nicholson grew up in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. He went to Gateway High School. There, he was a star athlete in three sports: football, basketball, and track and field.
During his senior year, Montae won gold medals in track. He won the PIAA state titles in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter relay. He also won the state's 60-meter indoor hurdles title. Because of his amazing athletic skills, he was named the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Male Athlete of the Year.
Many colleges wanted Montae to play for them. He was considered one of the top safety players in his high school class. He chose to attend Michigan State University.
College Football Career
Montae Nicholson played college football for the Michigan State Spartans. He played for the team from 2014 to 2016. His strong performance in college helped him get noticed by professional football teams.
Professional Football Journey
Montae Nicholson began his professional football career in the NFL. He was chosen by the Washington Redskins in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Playing for the Washington Redskins
Rookie Season: 2017
The Washington Redskins picked Montae Nicholson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract with the team. During training camp, he worked hard to earn a spot on the team. He became a backup strong safety.
Montae played his first professional game in the 2017 season opener. Soon after, he earned his first start in Week 2. He made two tackles in that game. In Week 3, Montae made his first career interception. He caught a pass thrown by Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders.

Later in the season, Montae had a game with six tackles and a pass breakup. He did experience some injuries during his rookie year, which caused him to miss a few games. He finished his first season with 24 tackles, two pass deflections, and one interception.
2018 Season
In 2018, Montae Nicholson started the season as the team's main free safety. He played in the first seven games as a starter. Later in the season, the team made a trade for another safety, and Montae's role changed.
2019 Season
In Week 2 of the 2019 season, Montae Nicholson got his first interception of the year. He intercepted a pass from Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. In Week 5, he intercepted another pass, this time from Tom Brady of the New England Patriots.
Montae played in 13 games that season. He finished with 62 tackles, four passes defended, and two interceptions. He was later placed on injured reserve.
Joining the DC Defenders
After his time with the Redskins, Montae Nicholson joined the DC Defenders of the XFL. He signed with the team on March 8, 2023. He has continued to play for the Defenders, re-signing with them in 2024.
