Montae Nicholson (born December 4, 1995) is an American professional football safety. He plays for the DC Defenders in the United Football League (UFL). Montae played college football at Michigan State. The Washington Redskins picked him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft.

Early Life and Sports
Montae Nicholson grew up in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. He went to Gateway High School. There, he was a star athlete in three sports: football, basketball, and track and field.
High School Achievements
In his final year of high school, Montae won several awards. He earned gold medals in track and field events. These included the 110 hurdles and the 400-meter relay. He also won the state's 60-meter indoor hurdles title. Because of his amazing skills, he was named the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Male Athlete of the Year.
Choosing a College
Experts at Rivals.com thought Montae was a top player. They ranked him as one of the best safety prospects in 2014. Many colleges wanted him to play for them. He chose to go to Michigan State. Other big schools like Florida State and Ohio State also offered him a spot.
College Football Career
Montae Nicholson played as a safety for Michigan State University from 2014 to 2016. He played in 38 games and started 23 of them. During his college career, he made 200 tackles. He also caught 4 interceptions and recovered 3 fumbles. In 2016, his junior year, he was recognized as an honorable mention All-Big Ten player.

Time with the Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins picked Montae Nicholson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft. He was the 123rd player chosen overall. In May 2017, he signed a four-year contract with the team.
2017 Season Highlights
Montae started his first professional game in Week 2. He made two tackles in a win against the Los Angeles Rams. In Week 3, he got his first career interception. He caught a pass thrown by Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders. This helped the Redskins win the game.
Later in the season, Montae had some injuries. He had to miss some games because of concussions. He finished his first season with 24 tackles and one interception. He played in eight games and started six of them.
2018 Season

Montae Nicholson joined the DC Defenders of the XFL in March 2023. He has been with the team since then. He signed with them again in January 2024 and October 2024. He was placed on injured reserve in April 2025 but was activated in May 2025. He was placed on injured reserve again shortly after.
