Monte Hermoso is a lovely town on the Atlantic coast of Argentina. It's about 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Bahía Blanca, in the southern part of the Buenos Aires Province. This town is the main center for the area called Monte Hermoso Partido.

It started in the early 1900s and is now a popular family beach spot. Monte Hermoso has over 32 kilometers (20 miles) of beautiful beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean. What makes it special is that you can see both the sunrise and the sunset over the sea!

The summer weather in Monte Hermoso is usually milder than other big beach towns. This is thanks to the cool sea breeze. Also, the ocean water here is warmer, making it a very pleasant place to swim and enjoy the beach.

Discover Monte Hermoso

Monte Hermoso is a great place for a family vacation. It offers long sandy beaches and a unique view of the ocean. Many people visit during the summer months to enjoy the sun and warm water.

The Story of Monte Hermoso

Monte Hermoso exists because of a man named Esteban Dufaur. In 1879, he bought a large piece of land by the sea. His son, Sulpicio, started a big farm called El Recreo in 1910.

In 1918, Sulpicio began welcoming guests. He opened the Hotel de Madera (Wooden Hotel). This hotel was built using wood from a shipwreck found on the shore! Monte Hermoso officially became a town in 1975. It gained its own local government on April 1, 1979.

The Tall Lighthouse

One of the most famous sights near Monte Hermoso is the Faro Recalada a Bahia Blanca lighthouse. It stands 73 meters (240 feet) tall, making it the tallest lighthouse in South America! You can find it about 7 kilometers (4 miles) east of the town, along the coastal road to Sauce Grande. It helps guide ships to the nearby port of Bahía Blanca.

This amazing lighthouse was made in France by the same company that built the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was put together in Argentina under the guidance of Engineer Luigi. He also helped build the naval base at Puerto Belgrano. The lighthouse first opened on January 1, 1906. It is painted red and white and flashes a white light every 9 seconds. You can take guided tours of the lighthouse every day.
