Monterey Hills is a neighborhood in the big city of Los Angeles, California. It's a planned community with many homes.

Building Monterey Hills

In 1971, the city decided to build Monterey Hills. The goal was to create a nice place for families to live. They wanted to offer different types of homes for people with various incomes.

Many condominium and rental buildings were constructed. A condominium is like an apartment you own. In total, 1,781 homes were built here.

Solving Building Problems

Later, some buildings had issues with the ground settling. This caused problems with the structures. To fix this, a special agreement was made in 1991. This agreement, called the Global Settlement Agreement, set aside money. This money helps pay for repairs to the buildings and land.

Even with these past challenges, Monterey Hills has become a popular place to live. Property values have gone up. Most of the original building issues have been fixed. Funds from the settlement continue to help keep things updated.

Where is Monterey Hills?

Fun Events

Monterey Hills Federation

The Monterey Hills Federation is made up of different Home Owner Associations (HOAs). HOAs are groups that manage shared areas in housing complexes. This Federation works to represent the neighborhood's interests. They talk with city, county, and state officials.

  • The Federation helped bring in a private security company. This company provides nightly patrols for safety.
  • They also worked to get Budd Wiener Park built. This park is a central spot for residents. It hosts the Jazz Festival, outdoor movies, and other fairs.
  • The Federation also sponsors community newsletters. These newsletters keep everyone informed.

Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council Committee

The Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council Monterey Hills Local Issues Committee is another important group. It collects feedback from the community. Then, it shares this feedback with the larger neighborhood council. Many members of this committee are also part of the Federation.

Both groups meet once a month. They discuss community concerns and get updates from city officials and local police.

Emergency Preparedness

Since 2015, the Monterey Hills Federation has been supporting a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This team helps people learn how to be ready for emergencies.
