Village History
Montezuma was first planned and marked out in 1835. The village got its name from Montezuma, a famous ruler from Mexico's history.
A post office, where people could send and receive mail, opened in Montezuma in 1840. The village officially became a town in 1894.
Geography of Montezuma
Montezuma is a very small village. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers a total area of about 0.13 square miles (0.34 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a tiny bit of water.
The village is located close to Grand Lake St. Marys, a large lake in Ohio.
