Meet Monty the Dog
Monty is a pet dog who lives with the Sprod family. The family includes Mr. and Mrs. Sprod, and their children, Simon and Josie. Monty is well-known for wearing his special red glasses. The Sprod family made these glasses for him after a cyclist nearly hit him.
Even with his glasses, Monty can sometimes be a bit clumsy! He really enjoys eating lots of yummy foods. Some of his favorites are sausages, chocolate biscuits, ice cream, custard, mince pies, and Walnut Whips. His love for snacks often gets him into funny situations.
Monty's Adventures in Books
The stories about Monty were published by A & C Black as part of their Jets series. The books usually follow a similar pattern. The very first book explains why Monty started wearing his glasses.
The stories are told using text and black and white pictures. Sometimes, the human characters have speech bubbles to show what they are saying. Monty, the dog, has thought bubbles to show what he is thinking! The covers of the books are always in bright colors.
Here are the books in the series:
- Monty, the Dog who Wears Glasses (1989)
- Monty Bites Back (1990)
- This book was also called Shape Up Monty! in the United States.
- Monty - up to his neck in trouble (1991)
- Monty Must be Magic (1992)
- Monty Ahoy! (1994)
- Monty's Ups and Downs (1996)
