Montz is a community in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not officially a city or town.

Montz first appeared in the 2000 census with about 1,120 people. By the 2020 census, its population had grown to 2,106 people.

History of Montz

One of 36 families in Montz whose homes were taken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1973. This was for building a new levee.

Montz is located in an area where the Bonnet Carré Crevasse happened. A crevasse is a break in a levee, which is a wall built to hold back water. This crevasse was one of many breaks in the levees near Bonnet Carré during the mid-to-late 1800s.

The Bonnet Carré area is about 50 kilometers (31 miles) from New Orleans. The break occurred when too much water from the Mississippi River flowed over the levee on the east side of Bonnet Carré.

Montz is situated between LaPlace, Louisiana and the Bonnet Carré Spillway. The spillway is a large structure that helps control the flow of the Mississippi River. It was finished in 1931. Its construction separated Montz from other towns on the east bank of the Mississippi River in St. Charles Parish.

On December 14, 2022, a strong tornado hit Montz. It caused a lot of damage to buildings. Sadly, one person died, and eight others were hurt.
