Early Life and School
Moon Jong-up was born on February 6, 1995, in Siheung, South Korea. He is the youngest of three brothers. He started elementary school in Siheung but soon moved to Sunae Elementary School in Bundang-gu, Seongnam. His mother, who is a trained chef, started her own business around this time.
Jongup also went to Sunae Middle School. There, he joined the dance club. He performed at many school events and even competed in b-boy dance tournaments. He later attended Hanlim Multi Art School in Seoul, a special school for performing arts. He graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School on February 7, 2013.
His Career Journey
Starting Out in Music
Moon Jong-up met a talent agent at a dance competition. This agent later invited him to an audition. He danced to a song by the artist Usher and found out he was accepted on his way home. He became a trainee at TS Entertainment in August during his first year of high school. He trained for a long time, second only to his bandmate Yongguk.
Joining B.A.P
Jongup was announced as a member of the six-person K-pop group B.A.P on January 17, 2012. In the group, he was a sub-vocalist and the main dancer.
The group officially started their career nine days later with their first album, Warrior. In November 2014, B.A.P had some problems with their company. The members wanted to change their contracts because they felt the conditions and how profits were shared were unfair.
In August of the next year, the group and the company reached an agreement. B.A.P then continued their activities under TS Entertainment.
Jongup performed his first solo song, "Try My Luck," during B.A.P's 2017 World Tour. This song was released as part of a project album with fellow member Daehyun on June 8.
In 2018, two members, Yongguk and Zelo, left the group and the company. Moon Jong-up and the other three members also left the company in February 2019. This led to B.A.P ending their activities as a group. After B.A.P disbanded, Jongup took a six-month break from music.
Solo Career and New Projects
In April 2019, Moon Jong-up acted in a play called The Lost Village. He played the younger version of a character named Donghyuk. The play was set on Jeju Island during historical events in 1979.
Jongup also appeared on the TV show Signhere in 2019. This was a competition where artists tried to join Jay Park's music label, AOMG. He passed the first round but was eliminated in the second. In November, Jongup signed a special contract with The Groove Company.
On May 7, 2020, he released his first solo album, Headache. The main song was a funk-pop track also called "Headache."
On July 8, 2021, he released his first extended play (EP) titled Us.
In December 2021, it was announced that he would play the role of Jang Jun in the music comedy film Idol Recipe. This movie is about an idol group that becomes successful even after their company abandons them.

On February 15, 2023, he was a contestant on the TV show Peak Time on JTBC. He was part of "TEAM 24:00," and his group finished in 3rd place in the final round.
On October 5, 2023, a preview was released for his second mini-album, Some. The album officially came out on October 30.
