Moore Cove Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the Pisgah National Forest in Western North Carolina. It's a popular spot for visitors near the town of Brevard. This amazing waterfall is special because you can actually walk behind the falling water!

A Bit of History

Moore Cove Falls gets its name from Moore Cove. This area was once owned by a person named Adam Q. Moore. Later, in 1891, the land became part of the large Pisgah National Forest. It was sold to George W. Vanderbilt for $155.

How the Falls Formed

The water that creates Moore Cove Falls comes from Moore Creek. This creek flows through the beautiful Pisgah National Forest. The waterfall flows over a large, overhanging rock cliff. This special shape allows people to walk right behind the curtain of water! Sometimes, during dry spells, the creek might slow down to just a tiny trickle.

Visiting Moore Cove Falls

Moore Cove Falls is open for everyone to visit. You can find a parking area right off U.S. Highway 276. This spot is about 6.6 miles north of where Highway 276 meets U.S. Highway 64 and NC Highway 280 in Brevard, North Carolina.

The Trail to the Falls

To reach the waterfall, visitors can follow a trail that is about ¾-mile (1.2 km) long. This path is considered to be of moderate difficulty. It means it's not too hard, but it's not super easy either.

Staying Safe at Waterfalls

It's very important to be careful when you visit any waterfall, including Moore Cove Falls. The area right at the bottom of the falls is usually flat and safe. However, there are unofficial paths that lead to the very top of the falls. These paths are extremely dangerous and slippery. It is always best to stay on the marked trails and avoid climbing to the top of any waterfall.
