Moore Reserve

Moore Reserve is a large park in Sydney, Australia. It covers about 14.2 hectares, which is like 14 big football fields! The park is surrounded by the suburbs of Oatley, Mortdale, and Hurstville Grove. It's the second biggest public park in the Municipality of Kogarah.

This park wasn't always here in its current form. In the 1960s, the area was filled in with mud. This mud was dug up from Oatley Bay. Sadly, a natural stream called Renown Creek was covered up during this process. It was later replaced by concrete pipes.

How Moore Reserve Was Created

Moore Reserve was built on land that was once part of a waterway. In the 1960s, workers used mud from Oatley Bay to fill in this area. This helped create the flat land we see today.

The Wetland Project

In 2001, an artificial wetland was built in the park. A wetland is an area of land that is covered by water, like a swamp. This special wetland helps clean water naturally.

It treats about 95% of all the rainwater that flows into it. This water comes from a large area of 125 hectares. The wetland cleans the water before it flows into Oatley Bay. This helps keep the bay healthy and clean for animals and people.
