The Mooretown Rancheria of Maidu Indians of California is a federally recognized tribe. This means the United States government officially recognizes them as a Native American tribe. They are made up of Concow and Maidu people. These groups live in Butte County. The Concow, also called Konkow, are a branch of the larger Maidu people. They traditionally lived in the foothills and spoke the Concow language.
