Moorhead's Early Days
Moorhead got its first post office in 1872. The city itself was officially planned out in 1899. It was named after an early settler in the area, J. R. Moorhead.

Before 2004, Moorhead was part of the East Monona Community School District. That district had its own school right in Moorhead. However, on July 1, 2004, the East Monona district closed down. The area where Moorhead is located then became part of the West Harrison school district.
