Morgan Harper was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 1, 1983. She lived in a foster home for nine months before a public school teacher adopted her. She grew up in Columbus.
Morgan went to Tufts University and earned a bachelor's degree. Later, she studied law at Stanford Law School and became a lawyer. She also earned another degree from Princeton University.
Career and Community Work
After finishing law school, Morgan Harper worked as a law clerk for a judge. She then worked at a law firm in New York.
She spent three years working for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This is a government agency that helps protect people when they deal with banks and other financial companies. She was a senior advisor there during President Obama's time. After that, she worked for a group called the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
In 2020, Morgan started her own non-profit organization called Columbus Stand Up.

Running for Congress in 2020
On July 1, 2019, Morgan Harper announced she would run for a seat in the United States House of Representatives. She wanted to represent Ohio's 3rd congressional district, which includes most of Columbus. She ran against the person who already held the seat, Joyce Beatty.
During her campaign, Morgan talked about several important ideas:
- Making sure all families have access to child care.
- Making public college free for students.
- Having a healthcare system called "Medicare for All."
- Making housing more affordable for everyone.
- Supporting a "Green New Deal" to help the environment.
Many groups supported her campaign, including Justice Democrats, the Sunrise Movement, and the Working Families Party. On April 29, 2020, it was announced that Joyce Beatty had won the election. Morgan Harper received about 32% of the votes.
Running for Senate in 2022
In August 2021, Morgan Harper announced she would run for the United States Senate in Ohio. She was one of several candidates in the Democratic primary election. Her main opponent was Congressman Tim Ryan.
Morgan's campaign shared an ad called "My Ohio Story." In the ad, she said she was the only candidate who always supported:
- "Medicare for all" (a healthcare plan).
- A "$15 minimum wage" (the lowest amount an employer can pay per hour).
- Expanding the Supreme Court (adding more judges to the highest court).
She lost the primary election to Tim Ryan, who received about 69% of the votes. Morgan Harper received about 17% of the votes.
