What's in a Name? The Story of Morgongåva
The name Morgongåva means "morning gift" in Swedish. This name comes from a very old cottage built in the area around 1667. A "morning gift" was a special present given to a bride the morning after her wedding.
Why the Cottage Was Called "Morning Gift"
The exact reason for the cottage's name isn't fully clear. One story says that a wealthy lord from Molnebo, near Morgongåva, wanted to give a special gift. He arranged for one of his maids and a farmhand to marry. As a wedding present, they received this cottage. This gift was like a "morning gift," which gave the cottage its unique name.
The local municipality of Heby also shares this story. They say Morgongåva is named after a "bride gift" from a lord to one of his maids.
A Look Back: The History of Morgongåva
Morgongåva started to grow in the 1870s. This was when the Dala Railway Line was being built. It was part of a bigger railway system.
Building the Railway Station
The German owners of a company called Schisshytte-Molnebo AB suggested building a train station in Morgongåva. This station wasn't in the original plans. However, because an ironworks factory was being built nearby, the station was added. A small village with streets was then planned around this new station.
The Ironworks and Early Industry
The ironworks factory was named Kung Oscarshyttan. It was designed like big factories in a place called Silesia. Sadly, this ironworks didn't do well and never fully started up.
Later, in 1898, a company named Westerås Lantbruksmaskiner began making farm machines here. They produced things like sowing machines and mowers. This factory closed down in 1988. After that, a discount store opened in its place.
Morgongåva's Modern Growth: E-commerce Hub
In the 21st century, Morgongåva has become very important for E-commerce in Sweden. E-commerce means buying and selling things online. Many big online companies have their main warehouses here.
For example, Adlibris, a large online bookseller, has its main distribution center in Morgongåva. They employ about 200 people. Another big company is Apotea, an online pharmacy. They have over 500 employees working in their distribution center here. This has made Morgongåva a busy and important place for online shopping.
Getting Around: Transport in Morgongåva
Morgongåva is located right on Swedish national road 72. This makes it easy to reach by car.
