Playing in the NBA
Wiley played one season for the Mavericks, appearing in 51 games during the 1988–89 season. On June 15, 1989, he was chosen by the Orlando Magic in the NBA Expansion Draft. This meant he became one of the first 12 players on the Magic's very first team roster.

However, on March 9, 1994, the Miami Heat signed him to a 10-day contract. After that, he had a third time playing for the Mavericks, appearing in 12 games at the end of the season.
Wiley played part of the 1994–95 season with the Mavericks for his third time. He was then traded to the Houston Rockets in 1995. This trade also included a second-round draft pick for Scott Brooks.
