Morlon David Wiley, born on September 24, 1966, is a former American professional basketball player. He also worked as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

College Basketball Journey

Morlon Wiley was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He played college basketball at Long Beach State. He was a starting player for the 49ers team for all four years.

In 1988, he was chosen for the all-Big West Conference team. His strong leadership helped his school get into the NIT for the first time ever. During his college career, he scored 30 points in a single game six different times. He is also third on the school's all-time list for assists with 425. He ranks second in steals with 187 and fourth in free throw percentage at .780. In 2005, Morlon was honored by being added to the 49ers' Hall of Fame.

Playing in the NBA

Morlon Wiley was picked by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1988 NBA draft. He was the 46th player chosen overall, in the second round. He played one season for the Mavericks, appearing in 51 games during the 1988–89 season.

On June 15, 1989, Morlon was chosen by the Orlando Magic in the NBA Expansion Draft. This meant he became one of the first 12 players on the Magic's very first team roster. A few weeks later, on June 29, he signed a two-year contract with them.

In his first season with the Magic, he started a couple of games. He played in 40 games and averaged 5.7 points and 2.9 assists per game. The next season, he played in only 34 games. He was released early in the 1991–92 season, after playing just 9 games for Orlando.

After leaving the Magic, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs. However, he only played 3 games for them. Morlon then joined the Atlanta Hawks for the rest of that season. He played for parts of the 1991–92 and 1992–93 seasons with the Hawks.

Later, Morlon returned to the Dallas Mavericks for a second time. He finished the 1992–93 season with them. He didn't play much during the 1993–94 season. But on March 9, 1994, the Miami Heat signed him to a 10-day contract. After that, he had a third time playing for the Mavericks. He played 12 games for them at the end of that season.

Morlon played part of the 1994–95 season with the Mavericks for his third time. He was then traded to the Houston Rockets in 1995. This trade also included a second-round draft pick for Scott Brooks. Morlon never played for the Rockets. Instead, he ended his playing career with another 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

CBA Championship

In 1994, Morlon Wiley won a championship in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He won this title with the Quad City Thunder team.

After Playing Basketball

After his playing career ended, Morlon Wiley continued to work in basketball. From 2000 to 2004, he was part of the Dallas Mavericks' player development staff. This means he helped players improve their skills. Later, he became an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic.
