Where Morrell Canyon Creek Flows
Morrell Canyon Creek starts high up in the mountains and makes its way down to join other creeks. It's about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) long.
Starting Point
The creek begins on the eastern side of San Mateo Peak. This peak is part of the Elsinore Mountains. The starting point is quite high up, about 3,080 feet (939 meters) above sea level. This area is northeast of Elsinore Peak.
Its Journey Downstream
As Morrell Canyon Creek flows, it is joined by another small stream, an eastern fork (a branch of the creek). This fork drains an area called the Morrell Potrero. The creek then flows northwest for a short distance. After that, it turns southeast and goes down a narrow area called Morrell Canyon.
The canyon is east of a place called Lion Spring. The creek continues to flow, changing directions several times. It goes north for a bit, then southwest, and the canyon gets wider.
Joining Other Creeks
Further along its path, the creek flows down a steep part of the canyon. Here, it is joined by two other creeks: Decker Canyon Creek and Long Canyon Creek. These creeks flow into Morrell Canyon Creek from the right side.
Finally, Morrell Canyon Creek turns southwest again. It flows into a wider canyon. This is where it meets Bear Canyon Creek. When Morrell Canyon Creek and Bear Canyon Creek join, they form the very beginning of San Juan Creek.
