The Hon. Moses Veerasammy Nagamootoo MP (born 30 November 1947) is a well-known Guyanese politician and writer. He served as the Prime Minister of Guyana from May 2015 to August 2020. During this time, he worked under President David A. Granger.

Early Life and Career
Moses Nagamootoo was born in a village called Whim, located in Berbice, which was then part of British Guiana. Today, this area is known as East Berbice-Corentyne in Guyana. His family has Tamil Indian roots.
Becoming a Teacher and Journalist
Before becoming a politician, Nagamootoo worked as a teacher and a journalist. He later became a lawyer. After finishing high school, he helped start the De Edwards/Rosignal High School in the late 1960s. He taught subjects like economics and British Constitution with great enthusiasm. These were new and exciting subjects for students in the West Coast Berbice area of Guyana.
Entering Politics
In 1992, Moses Nagamootoo was elected to the Parliament as a Member of Parliament for the People's Progressive Party (PPP). He then served as a government minister, first as Minister of Information and later as Minister of Local Government. He continued to be a minister under several presidents, including Cheddi Jagan, Samuel Hinds, Janet Jagan, and Bharrat Jagdeo.
He left his role as a minister in 2000 but remained a Member of Parliament until 2011. He had been a member of the PPP since 1964.
Joining a New Party
In October 2011, Nagamootoo decided to leave the PPP. He felt that Guyana needed new ideas for its economic and foreign policies. Soon after, he joined an opposition party called the Alliance For Change (AFC). He was then re-elected to Parliament as a member of this new party.
Becoming Prime Minister
After the opposition parties won the general election in May 2015, Moses Nagamootoo was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Guyana on May 20, 2015. He also became the First Vice-President. He even briefly took over presidential duties on June 12, 2015, when President David A. Granger was away. His term as Prime Minister ended in August 2020.
As a Writer
Moses Nagamootoo is also an author. He wrote a novel called Hendree's Cure, which was published in 2001. The book tells the story of Tamil fishermen living in the village of Whim during the 1950s and 1960s.
