How Mother Energy Drink Started
When Mother was first launched in 2006, it had a different recipe. This first version was made with more natural ingredients. However, many people didn't like its taste very much.
The First Recipe
The original Mother drink came in a 250 mL can. It contained about 106 milligrams of caffeine and 33 grams of sugar. It also had fruit from the Açaí Palm, apple juice, lemon juice, and carbonated water. Small amounts of guarana and ginseng were also in the drink.
Mother Gets a New Look and Taste
In 2008, Coca-Cola decided to change Mother's recipe and look. They wanted to make the drink taste better and appeal to more people. This big change happened after about 18 months of the drink being on the market.
What Changed in 2008?
The new Mother drink was launched with a new taste that customers had helped to choose. The cans also became bigger, going from 250 mL to 500 mL. The packaging changed from silver to black and red, and the drink itself changed from yellow to green. Coca-Cola spent a lot of money to tell everyone about the new and improved Mother. The new cans even said: "New - tastes nothing like the old one!"
New Flavors and Sizes Over Time
Since the big change in 2008, Mother has released many new flavors and sizes.
- In 2009, they launched Mother Surge, which was an orange-flavored drink.
- They also started selling Mother in a 355 mL glass bottle.
- A smaller 250 mL can, called 'Mother of a mixer', was made for bars and clubs.
- In 2010, a tiny 150 mL can called 'Mother Big Shot' was released. It had more guarana and taurine compared to the regular Mother drink.
- Later in 2010, they added 'Low Carb' and 'Lemon Bite' flavors.
- A 'Sugarfree' version with a silver can came out in 2012.
- In 2017, Mother updated its logo and packaging again. They also introduced a 'Kicked Apple' flavor.
