Company History: From Juices to Energy Drinks
Early Beginnings: Hansen's Juices
The company began in 1935. Hubert Hansen and his three sons started selling juice. They sold their juices to film studios and stores. These products were all under the Hansen's name. In the 1970s, Hubert's grandson, Tim Hansen, created new sodas and juices. He also sold them under the Hansen's brand.
The company's name changed over time. It became Hansen's Juices. Later, it was called The Fresh Juice Company of California. A plant in Los Angeles opened in 1946. Operations moved to a new plant in Azusa, California in 1993.
Growth and New Ownership
In 1988, the company faced financial difficulties. It was then bought by California CoPackers Corporation. The company was renamed Hansen Natural Company. In 1990, Hansen's became a public company. This meant its shares could be bought and sold by people.
In 1997, Hansen's launched its first energy drink. It was called Hansen's Energy. The company moved its headquarters in 1998. It moved from Anaheim, California to Corona, California.
Becoming Monster Beverage Corporation
Energy drinks became very popular. They grew to be the company's biggest source of income. Because of this, shareholders voted on January 5, 2012. They agreed to change the company's name. Hansen's Natural became Monster Beverage Corporation.
Recent Company Developments
In 2015, The Coca-Cola Company bought a part of Monster Beverage Corp. They bought 16.7% of the company. This was a big investment. Their share grew to 19.3% by 2018. This happened because Monster Beverage Corp bought back some of its own shares.
