Mount Anderson is a very tall mountain in Antarctica. It is found in the northern part of the Sentinel Range. This range is part of the larger Ellsworth Mountains.

Discovering Mount Anderson

Mount Anderson was first seen by explorers in the late 1950s. A group called the Marie Byrd Land Traverse Party discovered it. This party explored the area between 1957 and 1958.

The team was led by a person named Charles R. Bentley. They named the mountain after Vernon H. Anderson. He was a glaciologist, a scientist who studies glaciers and ice. Vernon Anderson worked at Byrd Station in 1957 and was part of the discovery team.

Where is Mount Anderson Located?

Mount Anderson is in a very cold and icy part of the world. It is in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains. This area is in Antarctica, the continent at the South Pole.

Several large ice rivers, called glaciers, flow near the mountain. The Embree Glacier is to its northeast. The Ellen Glacier and its smaller branch, the Fonfon Glacier, drain its eastern slopes. A ridge called Probuda Ridge also stretches northeast from the peak.
